It’s all about getting healthy, learning to stay that way for a lifetime, and having fun with others who share your goals. Here’s what you’ll focus on:

Learning healthy eating habits. You’ll learn how to pick the foods that taste good and are also good for you.

Being active physically. Yes, that’s partly exercise, but in a way that’s fun, that involves friends and teammates, as well as family.

Tapping into who you are and who you can become. At Grand View, we believe in what we call “mind, body, spirit” – three parts of us that work together to make us happy and whole. You’ll learn what we mean!

Your camping experience will be supervised by certified fitness instructors, and your camp counselors will be trained college students. In addition, there will be a fulltime Registered Nurse on campus each day and on-call medical staff for after-hours concerns. Extreme 180 Camp is sponsored by Grand View University, Blank Children’s Hospital, Live Healthy Iowa and YMCA Healthy Living Center.

Here’s a sample of what you’ll do:

Skits
Team building
Partner walks
Seminars
Fitness activities
Movies

Art project
Dancing
Game show
Sand volleyball/relays
Scavenger hunt
Talent show

Facilities and opportunities

You’ll live on the Grand View campus during your Extreme 180 experience and use the same facilities the college students do. Take a look:

The Suites are air-conditioned, comfortable and new, with a private bathroom in each one. You’ll share your suite with others who’ll become your friends and teammates.

The Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center has everything you need to get active – a track, aerobics room, weight rooms and a gym.

The Luhrs Athletic Complex has outdoor fields and courts, perfect for summer activity and fun.

You’ll also be able to use the YMCA Fitness Center.

And then there’s Des Moines! You’ll have fun at places like Advertureland, Principal Park for baseball games, the Des Moines Art Center, Blank Park Zoo and a bowling alley.
