Grand View Graduates Succeed, Remain in Iowa

(Please note:  On February 2, 2014 the Des Moines Register published placement statistics for Grand View's class of 2012 that were incorrect.  The correct placement rates are reflected on this page.  The Register agreed to print a correction. The placement rate for the class of 2013 is again 98%.)

Grand View’s class of 2012-2013 recorded great success in the job market and/or continuing their education. Of the 446 graduate respondents, 90% were employed, 4% were continuing their education, 3% were employed and continuing their education, and 1% were not seeking employment - for a 98% placement rate.

Other highlights from the annual Career Center survey include:

  • 91% of Iowa students remained in Iowa after graduation. Of graduates who came from out of state, 61% remained in Iowa after graduation. 
  • 93% of those employed reported positions or placements consistent with their primary academic major.
  • 94% reported they feel empowered to pursue a career, vocational path or “calling” that uses fully their academic preparation, skills, abilities, and passions.
  • 28% of respondents voluntarily provided salary information and  reported average annual income of $36,000.

Area Employers hiring the most Grand View graduates from the 2012-2013 class include: UnityPoint Health, Wells Fargo, Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines Public Schools, Nationwide, Hy-Vee, VA Central Iowa Health Care System, Youth Emergency Services and Shelter, Principal Financial Group, Southeast Polk Community School District, State of Iowa, and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.

For the past 20 years, Grand View’s placement rate has been between 98% and 100% with the exception of two years during the most recent recession, when it dipped to 95-96%.
