Scholarship Student Profiles

Many Grand View students -- and graduates -- have benefitted from the Des Moines community's support.  Here you'll meet a few of them.

Taylor Wilson
Accounting and Business Administration: Finance, '09

Hometown: Colfax, Iowa

Scholarship awarded: Farm Bureau Financial Services Scholarship

"My scholarship has benefited me greatly in the financial aspect but has also encouraged me to strive toward good grades in the business field in hopes of earning a future scholarship.

"Grand View prepared me for my career by offering many accounting and business courses that have led me to a well-rounded education in those areas. My required internship was very beneficial in prepping me for a future career."

Taylor is employed by Van Corp Corporation in Pella, IA as an accountant.

Semira Cocic
Biology, '09

Hometown: Des Moines, Iowa

Scholarships awarded: Paul C. Oksnee Science Scholarship, Elizabeth Strasser Endowed Scholarship for Exceptional Students in Biology, Carver Scholarship

"Scholarships have significantly reduced my undergraduate debt.  It was a huge relief to start medical school with a debt-free slate.

"Grand View prepared me academically, as well as in many other ways, for life after graduation, including continuing my education in medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine.  As I planned for my future, my professors were very helpful during the process and more than willing to write letters of recommendation. Although I have not decided what specific type of doctor I eventually want to be, I am leaning towards radiology, OB/GYN, or pediatrics.
