Des Moines' Music Scene
Des Moines has a strong local music scene as well as many national acts. Venues like the Val Air Ballroom and Wells Fargo Arena have brought acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Snoop Dogg, Paul McCartney, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Bob Dylan, Matisyahu and many others in recent years. There are also venues such as The Vaudeville Mews, The House of Bricks and 
Java Joes (all located downtown) that host many all-ages shows as well as national and local acts. There are many outdoor music opportunities throughout the summer at local farmer’s markets and street dances.
For classical music lovers, The Des Moines Symphony and Metro Opera are always options, and Grand View hosts the annual Nielsen Concert Series bringing classical music to campus. You’ll undoubtedly find something you enjoy listening to!
Bud’s Place, in Knudsen Hall on campus, hosts bands throughout the school year. This is a great opportunity to take a study break without leaving campus
