Grand View Student Ministries
Students who have a passion for ministry can find an outlet for their gifts through Grand View Student Ministries (GVSM). GVSM both supports and connects students with ministry and service opportunities on and off campus. The core team also provides valuable guidance for students hoping to launch new ministries and support to existing ones. GVSM is committed to prayerfully identifying and purposefully seeking to better meet needs both on campus and in our local community - for the sake of the gospel.
Director of Student Ministries: Kate Glenney firstname.lastname@example.org
Lizzy Feilmeier, Co-Director
Hey! I’m Lizzy and I’m a junior art education major. This is my 2nd year on Student Ministry Team as the Co-Director. I love the way ministry has grown in my 3 years here, and all the people we can impact. I’m also in FOCUS and I enjoy the ways the faith groups can work together. In my free time, I love to do things with the theater department, especially acting and costuming! My favorite Bible verse is Genesis 1:31—“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.”
Todd Nielsen, Co-Director
What's up? My name is Todd Nielsen and I'm a senior graphic design major. I serve as Student Ministry Co-Leader. My two favorite things to do when I have free time is listen to music and play video games. I'm also incredibly addicted to "Breaking Bad," where I'm currently on my second time through every season. I love being present on campus and available to ask questions people may have regarding ministry events! My favorite Bible verse is John 15: 9-13 “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Rachel Menzel, Communications Coordinator
Hi! My name is Rachel Menzel, and I’m a senior in the nursing program at Grand View. My position on SMT is Communications Coordinator. In my free time, if not writing long papers and spending lots of hours in the hospital, I love to spend my free time with my family and boyfriend! I love to knit, and I get addicted to TV shows very quickly. I love going to Mosaic on Wednesday nights because it takes my mind off of school and things that stress me out. It is a good way to reconnect with God and learn more about His plan for me. My favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9—“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joseph Gayer, Chapel Coordinator
My name is Joseph Gayer and I’m a sophomore double business major (business administration with a concentration in agricultural business and management service systems). On campus, I’m involved with choir, student leadership, and intramurals. I like to work out, stay active with sports, play video games, and hang out with friends. My position on Student Ministry Team is Chapel Coordinator. On campus, I especially love helping with communion. My favorite Bible passage is the parable of the lost sheep, found in Luke 15: “Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.”
Ellie Walter, Artist
Hi, I’m Ellie Walter. I am a senior graphic design major, with minors in interactive design and photography. With the little free time I have, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. On SMT, I am the Artist. I love working with Pastor Russ & Kate! One of my favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Heather Carpe, Outreach Leader
Hi, I’m Heather Carpe. I’m a sophomore nursing major and I love meeting new people! I’m the Outreach Leader on the Grand View Student Ministries Team. I hope to meet a lot of you throughout the year at different events. I love watching people grow in their faith while on their own at college. There are many things to go to that help with this which is one of my favorite this about faith life on campus! My favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 5:14 “This is why it is said: ‘Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.’”
Justina Glick, Viking Kids Club Leader
Hey I’m Justina! I am a junior majoring in elementary education! I am the Viking Kids Club Leader (an afterschool, children’s ministry) and am also a member of the Grand View Softball Team. One thing I enjoy about faith life on campus is all the new friendships I form! My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Rachel Dachenbach, Prayer Vikings Leader
Hi, my name is Rachel Dachenbach and I’m a senior music education major here at GV. I’ve been involved in Student Ministries since day 1 of my freshman year and I love every minute of it! This year, I’m Prayer Vikings Leader, and I can’t wait to see what this year has in store. The best thing about Grand View is its faith diversity. There’s always a new group, activity, or event to take part in and grow in faith in Christ. When I’m not in choir or band rehearsal, teaching voice and piano lessons, or doing homework, I LOVE to draw, write, and play The Sims. My favorite Bible verses are Psalm 19:1-4 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun.” Hope to see you around campus!
Hannah Pickart, Student Ministries Hougen Leader
