Driver and Safety Education (Endorsement #118)
The courses below are offered in a blended format, combining classroom experiences with online interaction:
EDUC 332 Driver Education I 3 credits
Course Dates: March 7th – May 2nd
Saturdays: March 7th and 28th; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This course teaches students how to organize a driver and safety education program and how to use class time to meet state regulations. This course also explores different techniques and methods for teaching driver education.
EDUC 333 Driver Education II 3 credits
Course Dates: March 13th – May 2nd, by arrangement with instructor
Students in this course spend time in the classroom as well as 16 supervised hours in the car helping beginning student drivers develop skills and attitudes that support safe and responsible driving. There is also a one-time evaluation meeting with each student. This course is given on a pass/fail basis. Students who earn a grade of C or better receive three semester hours of credit.
EDUC 331 Traffic Safety & Accident Prevention 3 credits
Online Course Dates: May 8th – 29th
Three-hour final evaluation on campus, by arrangement, Tuesday, May 26–Saturday, May 30
This class is designed for students who are seeking teacher licensure in Driver and Safety Education and for individuals who wish to be approved to provide instruction in commercial driving schools in the state of Iowa. Classroom instruction addresses traffic safety and accident prevention issues. Students also visit selected accident sites and car repair facilities in the Des Moines area. Must have proof of Iowa teaching license.
