Des Moines and Beyond
At Grand View, you’ll have many opportunities to get acquainted first hand with what it will be like to work in your chosen field. Most majors offer or require at least one internship, practicum, clinical or other job-related experience before graduation.
Your first year
You won’t have to wait until you’re well along in your studies to get involved in hands-on practical activities. Starting with your first year, you’ll begin to practice in your field at on-campus facilities. You might operate the latest radio and television equipment in Cowles Communication Center … write for the Grand Views student newspaper … practice clinical skills at the Wellness Center … create your own company in a business major capstone course … polish your creative skills in the fully equipped graphics design lab … or explore the structural and functional relationships of the human body in the cadaver lab.
The Des Moines advantage
Internships and related practical experiences, depending on your major, give you more than just a taste of your future career. They also lead to jobs. According to results of a recent survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers rated their internship programs as the most effective recruiting method they use for hiring new college graduates; 60% percent hired their interns into full-time positions. A survey by internships.com reveals an even higher percentage: 69%.
Thanks to Grand View’s location in Des Moines and our close relationships with central Iowa employers, you’ll have a wealth of internship opportunities to choose from. Or you can create your own summer opportunity outside of central Iowa with the support of our Director of Internship Programs.
