Career Options

Pre-professional careers for Biology majors
Grand View Biology majors have a very high rate of acceptance into medical schools and related allied health programs of study. Recent graduates have entered medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, veterinary, and dental schools. Other graduates have been admitted to programs leading to work as physician assistants and physical therapists.

Other careers in biology
Graduates seek employment in diverse areas such as zoology, biotechnology, waste management, parks, and education. Often a previous internship position with an employer has led to a full-time job after graduation. The Des Moines area is rich in potential internship possibilities. The internship experience, through careful planning with academic advisors, allows students to earn college credit, develop valuable skills, and gain additional knowledge beyond the classroom.

Biology majors also enter graduate schools to further their education in a narrow area of study. Classes and enrichment experiences at Grand View provide the background for students to enter master’s and doctoral programs of study.

Elizabeth H. Strasser Scholarship
A yearly grant of $1,000 is awarded to one junior or senior student with a major in Biology. The basis for this award is academic achievement and promise.
