Job Description:
The Head Coach for Softball will seek to provide an environment that will allow the student-athlete the chance to grow physically, socially, culturally, intellectually and morally. This position will oversee all daily aspects of the sport and their team; and will participate as an active and positive member of the Department of Athletics
Job Qualifications:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Responsible for organizing and leading a program that will finish with a winning record, compete for division and conference championships, and have the opportunity to advance to the conference and national tournament • Responsible preparation and coordination for all practice sessions. • Responsible for overseeing and leading individual skill development sessions that will lead to individual award recognition (all conference, all region, all American) and team success • Improve team’s conditioning and strength level during the season. • Develop either an electronic or hard copy of off-season voluntary workouts for student-athletes • Responsible for total recruiting effort, which will include recruiting student-athletes that will receive ASC individual recognition, ex. all freshmen recognition or newcomer of the year etc. • Achieve the defined recruiting quotas, and timely responses to prospective athlete inquiries. • Responsible for organizing and implementing a retention plan for individual program • Work in conjunction with Dept Budget Officer to secure away game arrangements (transportation, hotel, meal money, etc.). • Work in conjunction with Dept Budget Officer to order all supplies and equipment; monitor all budget requests, and stay within allocated amount for budget operations; if problems or overages are anticipated, contact Director of Athletics as soon as possible. • In conjunction with Director of Athletics, arrange for off campus facilities to be used for home schedule • In conjunction with Director of Athletics, arrange schedules and scrimmages if appropriate • Conduct program within ASC and NCAA guidelines and report any infractions on a timely basis. • Assist Compliance Coordinator to verify roster accuracy for athlete eligibility; periodically check with players to insure academic effort and progress; coordinate with Compliance Coordinator and Director of Athletics on any eligibility concerns. • Represent the University at required conference or national meetings and conventions. • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, insure game officials are requested in a timely manner. • At least one day in advance, verify with athletic office that game day requirements are completed or planned for. • In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, coordinate end of season banquet. • In conjunction with the Sports Information Director, annually update season records. Keep individual and team statistics. • Insure proper and timely statistical reports to NCAA, conference, or regional coordinators. • Insure that the local newspapers, TV stations and the Sports Information Director are advised of all sports scores and highlights of home and away contests. • Develop and maintain working relationship with local TV and newspaper sports departments. • Attend athletic department and University meetings and functions. • Represent the University and athletic department in the community when needed. • Communicate your sport needs to the Director of Athletics as well as the Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director. • Support the implementation of a character education program. • Offer and run productive youth summer camps. • Perform second duty(s) as assigned by the Director Athletics. • Participate in yearly review. Position Requirements • 1 year experience coaching softball required • Prefer experience at the collegiate level. Required Education & Experience • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. • Comply with the Concordia University Texas’ Department of Athletics Procedures Handbook; NCAA and ASC Manuals; NCAA and ASC Coaches Code of Conduct and Ethics. • Abide by all University policies. • Responsible to maintain a professional image while representing the University at games, practices, away trips, conventions or meetings and in the local community. • Dress appropriately for practices and professionally for games or matches. • Ability to coach and lead teams. • Ability to recruit non-scholarship athletes. • Working knowledge of MS Office including MS Word, Excel and MS Outlook. Special Working Conditions • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs. • Must be able to stand on feet outside for a long period of time • Expected to work extended hours frequently during season. • A valid driver’s license and clear driving record is required. • May teach classes
