Job Description:
• Provide basic health care to clients. • Recruit and supervise LPN’s, weekend nurses and other health center staff. • Perform all duties of on-site supervisor one weekend a month for Respite services • Collaborate with the Wellness Coordinator in the development of a wellness environment for clients and staff. • Ensure clients have a health history and physical examination form on file as required. • Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, utilize approved standing orders, setup and administer prescribed medications. • Consult with program staff to evaluate and process client health and wellness issues; make appropriate recommendations. • Create and review medical policy and procedure • Participate in and lead specific areas of team member orientation pertaining to client health, wellness and safety, universal precautions, etc. • Serve as a medical liaison • Maintain accident/incident reports, daily health log and individual health histories. • Prepare an evaluation including inventories, program evaluations and make recommendations for the following season. • Act as primary contact person for health related questions. • Supervise and implement health center check in and check out procedures. • Serve on the safety team • Check and maintain first aid kits • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse with current and active license in the State of Iowa. • Certification in CPR (Adult and Child), First Aid and Mandatory Reporting. • Ability to work all consecutive weeks during the summer program • Ability and willingness to work one weekend a month August through April • Ability to be solution focused • Ability to demonstrate behavior consistent with positive behavior support philosophy • Desire to work with persons who have disabilities. • Ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to an activity; to model and enforce appropriate safety and emergency procedures. • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats. • Ability to bend, stoop, twist and lift • Ability to transfer or move a minimum of 80 pounds. • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including on-call overnight hours • Ability to work cooperatively with team members, campers and external customers in a professional and concerned manner. • Ability to accept supervision and guidance. • Ability to work independently.
