Johnston Community School District Community Education Job Description and Specifications 3/2011 Position: KTC Provider (part-time) Supervisor/Evaluator: KTC On-site Coordinator Terms of Employment: 12 month, part-time Benefits: CE Part-time benefits Position Summary • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation to school-age youth during the school year and/or all day child care during the summer months, and specialty all-day child care during school holidays/breaks. Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities • Ability to relate well with children, understanding their developmental needs. • Ability to accept and complete responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. • Knowledge of and interest in a variety of areas such as sports, music, arts, games, computers, and environment. • Leadership skills in directing children's activities. • Dependability. • Ability to serve as a positive role model for children. • Good human relations skills--sense of humor, enthusiasm, patience, etc. Education and Certification • High School degree preferred (minimum age of 16 years) Certifications • Obtainable upon employment: Valid First Aid and CPR Certification, Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens, and OSHA Right to Know Experience • Equivalent of a minimum of one-year successful experience working with children. Professional • Monitor and execute behavior guidelines to create positive, supportive and consistent environment • Relate and interact with children using positive reinforcement and effective communication • Assist On-Site Coordinator in planning recreational and educational activities • Prepare and implement daily activities coordination with On-Site Coordinator • Serve as a role model for children • Check children's attendance following procedure book guidelines, as assigned • Maintain a clean, sanitary, orderly and safe environment • Assist On-Site Coordinator in creating a pleasing care-site environment • Help set up and put away tables and care-site equipment • Assist in preparation of program/art materials • Report maintenance/custodial problems to On-Site Coordinator • Lock up buildings and supplies as assigned • Report to assigned care-site promptly as scheduled • Greet children and parents as they arrive at the care-site • Communicate effectively and professionally with, and show respect for staff, parents and children at the site, as well as community members and groups • Participate in parent orientation night at the start of school • Communicate children's behavior concerns with On-Site Coordinator • Record behavioral incidents in behavior/conference log • Develop positive relationships with school district staff • Attend staff and in-service training meetings as appointed • Maintain confidentiality of children's records • Maintain accurate time sheets • Remain knowledgeable about program policies and procedures • Understand and implement information on children's enrollment records • Maintain accurate records as assigned by the On-Site Coordinator • Located at assigned elementary school child care site. • District-wide as requested for in-service and meetings. • Personal contacts with participants and parents, community education staff, school professional and support staff. • Provide supervision of participants. • Must be available 6:15 – 8:45am and/or 3:00-6:00pm each day and during child care hours on early dismissal, late starts and no school days. If unable to be on site during assigned times, an appropriate substitute will be called to fulfill responsibilities. • Other duties as assigned.
