Job Description:
Overview: The Events Manager oversees performances for the LSM Concert and Recital Series and other live events at the Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival. Responsibilities include serving in the role of event stage manager, training and supervising student stage crews, collaborating with host campus facilities’ staff, supporting recording engineers, and working closely with the LSM Audience Services Manager on the day-to-day needs of the program. The Events Manager has primary responsibility for implementing a performance series that upholds LSM’s reputation for musical excellence and supports the faculty and student musicians who make up the LSM community. Principal Duties: • Serve as a member of the LSM Summer Staff to create a high quality performance series that is inclusive and engages the entire LSM community. • Provide oversight and management for all evening recitals, special events, guest artist recitals, festival week activities, and concerts. Responsibilities in this area will include: stage set-up and tear-down, onsite event supervision of student crews, onsite event management of front of house student volunteers, technical assistance in sound and/or lighting, interaction with recording engineers, green room management and setup for guest artist concert, technical support for student talent show, etc. • Train and supervise students who sign up to serve on the recital crew service group. Students are involved with set-up and stage change over during LSM performances. • Collaborate with Audience Services Manager on Festival Week recital placement process to prepare for LSM Festival Week activities and design performance calendar for studio and chamber recitals. • Create a professional, welcoming backstage environment for faculty and student performers. • Be available to answer student questions, provide support, etc. • Support the work of Westmark Productions to record all LSM performance events. • Supervise the Events Management intern. • Fully participate in the community of Lutheran Summer Music, including attendance and participation in weekly staff and faculty meetings. • Prepare and distribute information to faculty and the LSM community related to recitals and concerts. This includes presenting to large groups of people.
Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree (completed) in music or related field required. • Related experience in the area of events management, either as a student or through professional employment. Candidates with stage management or concert management experience will be given preference. • Musical proficiency that ensures clear communication and ability to run music performance events. • Ability to work under pressure in a time-sensitive environment, respond to unforeseen challenges, and problem-solve in a calm manner on short notice. • Understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the organization. • Appreciation for classical music or personal participation in musical activities. • Ability to lift and/or carry instruments, music stands, and music-related items up to 30 pounds on a regular basis. • Strong interest in working with high school students. • Excellent time management skills. • Proven ability to solve problems effectively and under time constraints. • Word processing and spreadsheet proficiency, with exceptional attention to detail.
