Vikings Back in NAIA Mens' Soccer Top 25 Rankings
The Grand View men’s soccer team took the biggest leap of any program in this week’s NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll. After receiving votes in the past three weekly rankings, the Vikings moved into the No. 18 spot in the fourth poll of the season. It is the program’s first NAIA Top 25 ranking since 2007.
Behind veteran coach Blair Reid, the men are off to a 9-0 start and are 2-0 in conference play. Grand View is one of just 16 teams that remain undefeated in the NAIA this season.
As a team, the Vikings currently rank nationally in four categories, notably, shots on goal per game (11.11 p/g – 1 4th) and total goals (26 – 16th). Individually, several players rank nationally in numerous categories. Among them, senior goalkeeper Darren Martin (Dumfries, Scotland) ranks 9th in goals against per game (.440 GGA) and sophomore Jonny MacAdam (Glasgow, Scotland) is sixth in game winning goals (3), 27th in total points (18), and 32nd in total goals (7).
For the third straight poll, Simon Fraser is the No. 1 team. The Clan gathered 18 first-place votes and a total of 649 points. Simon Fraser holds a 24-2 scoring advantage this season and is a perfect 7-0 overall.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences, independents and unaffiliated groups. The fifth regular season Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Oct. 5.
