Men's Soccer Jumps to No. 9 in NAIA Top 25 Poll
The Grand View men’s soccer team made its way up to the No. 9 spot in the first regular-season edition of the 2011 NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Vikings were the No. 13 team in the NAIA Preseason Poll.
The Vikings once again stacked its preseason schedule with top-notch competition and defeated four non-conference teams that received votes in the preseason ratings. GV remains undefeated at 4-0 and its schedule doesn’t get much easier heading into the conference season.
The men open MCC play on Saturday at Viterbo in La Crosse, Wis. The V-Hawks received votes in this week’s top 25 Poll. Before taking on No. 25 MCC opponent Ashford On October 1, the Vikings will take on perhaps one of its most challenging tasks of the year as they host the top team in the nation, Hastings College, in non-conference play on September 17. Hastings received all 22 first-place votes this week and owns the nation’s longest active win streak at 27-consecutive matches. Other notable opponents for the Vikings in 2011 are St. Xavier on September 21 and Graceland on October 18 – both teams received votes in this week’s rating.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference / independents/unaffiliated groups. The second regular-season Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Sept. 13.
