Grand View Choir to Tour Through Denmark and Germany; Home Concert on April 7

The Grand View University Choir is taking a twelve-day Spring Tour through Denmark and Germany, March 13-25, 2013.  The choir will be giving performances in Roskilde, Lindelse, and Vilslev (in Denmark) and Nieblum auf Föhr, Henstedt, Bad Belzig, and Leipzig (in Germany).  They will return to the United States on March 25, 2013 and present their Home Concert at 3:00 p.m. April 7 at Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines.
 
The tour program consists of masterful choral works ranging from the baroque masters to the modern American choral tradition, including works by Heinrich Schutz, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Edvard Grieg, Heinz Werner Zimmermann, Rene Clausen, Knut Nystedt, and James Fritschel.  Also included are representative works of the great early American folk and spiritual traditions in the form of arrangements by Jack Halloran, Alice Parker, and others.
 
Dr. Kathryn Pohlmann Duffy is Chair of the Grand View University Music Department and director of the Choir.  She holds degrees from Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa; Kansas State University; and the University of Chicago, where she earned her Ph.D. in musicology.

***There will be an Æbleskiver breakfast served with sausage, applesauce, fruit salad, juice and coffee hosted by the Danish Brotherhood Lodge #15 before the concert from 10:30-1:00 in Luther Memorial Fellowship Hall.  Adults: $6.00 Children/Students: $4.00 with proceeds to benefit charitable giving.
