Cowles Communication Center

Cowles Communication Center, located at 1331 Grandview Avenue, was dedicated in 1987. Digital Media Production, Graphic Journalism, Journalism and Mass Communication majors spend much of their time in this building. The photography gallery in the glass atrium provides excellent exposure for exhibits.

Broadcasting Facilities

Cowles Communication Center contains radio and television studios, control rooms and editing suites for Digital Medi Production majors. The radio studio is used for broadcasting on KDPS, Grand View’s radio station. The 35 student DJs use a digital computerized automation system as well as several multi-track editors. TV studio productions as well as remote digital camera productions air on a Des Moines cable channel each week. Broadcast majors work with state-of-the-art nonlinear digital video editing as they prepare for internships and part-time jobs in corporate video and at local television stations.

Journalism Lab and Photo Studio

Cowles Communication Center has a journalism computer lab with Macintosh computers and black and white as well as color printers. This lab also is home to the staff of The Grand Views, the student newspaper. Photography students perfecting their digital photography skills use Macintosh computers with Photoshop as well as a professional photo studio. Cowles also has classrooms, faculty offices, a conference room and a snack bar area.
