Dr. Thomas Lecaque Published in France

May 28, 2019

Dr. Thomas Lecaque, Assistant Professor of History at Grand View, had a publication come out in France last week. Congratulations to Dr. Lecaque on a book chapter entitled "La piété de l’Auvergne, la piété de la Croisade La Chaise-Dieu, Raymond de Saint-Gilles et la Première Croisade," in the volume La Chaise-Dieu - Communauté monastique et congrégation (XIe siècle - fin de l’Ancien Régime)

The volume, La Chaise-Dieu - Communauté monastique et congrégation (XIe siècle - fin de l’Ancien Régime), is the collected papers from a 2016 international colloquium at the important south-central French monastery of La Chaise-Dieu. It takes a new look at the monastery's political, religious, economic, and cultural impact on the region from its foundation at the beginning of the eleventh century until 1792, when it was officially closed during the French Revolution. Lecaque's chapter in it, "La piété de l’Auvergne, la piété de la Croisade: La Chaise-Dieu, Raymond de Saint-Gilles et la Première Croisade," looks at the importance of the monastery in the spiritual formation of one of the First Crusade leaders, Raymond of Saint-Gilles, and its role in recruitment for that same crusade. This is his first publication in French.

Congratulations!
