Grand View University Middle School Honor Band
March 21, 2018
Grand View University Music Department will welcome over 300 talented 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students to our campus on May 1, 2018 for the Grand View University Middle School Honor Band. The students represent 33 schools from across the state. They will be on campus all day for rehearsals culminating with a performance at 6:00 p.m. in Sisam Arena.
The first middle school honor band was held two years ago, and has grown from one band for 7th and 8th grade students to three different grade-level bands representing a 300% growth in nominations and students selected.
"This event has become a highlight of the year for many students and their directors," commented organizer Mark Doerffel. As Director of Instrumental Studies at GV, he is responsible for the administration and musical direction of the Pep Band and Wind Ensemble. "It is wonderful that this Honor Band can serve such a wide distribution of schools and students."
The conductors for the honor band this year are Paul Bloomquist from Iowa Central Community College leading the 6th grade band; Brad Lampe from Clarke Community Schools leading the 7th grade band; and Dr. Frank Perez from Baker University (Kansas) leading the 8th grade band.
