PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITS
Cowles Communication Center Gallery
1300 Morton Avenue

Troubled Beauty
Now-February 16-April 5
"Troubled Beauty" by Courtney Townsend is a juxtaposition of the physical splendor of Northern Ireland and the serious conflict that is visible through politically inspired murals used as territorial markers. The murals stand as a physical representation demonstrating how Northern Ireland still suffers from prejudice, violence, economic disparity, and most of all the separation that is a result of the fighting. Despite the tension and conflict, Northern Ireland is also an incredibly beautiful and inspiring country with magnificent vistas, lush landscapes and hospitable people. Townsend was able to travel extensively throughout the nation to document the natural beauty that serves as a pastoral backdrop to the underling social and economic tensions.
