Sport Management

The Sport Management major is a perfect fit if you want to learn management skills that will lead you to occupational opportunities in the sports and recreational industry. You'll combine the knowledge you gain in several majors, such as business administration, health promotion and physical education. There are an estimated six million jobs available in sports and sport related fields in this country alone.

Internships

The internship is an integral part of this program, providing students with necessary field experiences. Our Des Moines location gives you access to an array of sites and people, including Principal Park – Iowa Cubs, Wells Fargo Arena – Iowa Stars, high school wrestling and basketball championships, Des Moines Buccaneers, Iowa Girls Athletic Union, Cownie Athletic Complex, YMCA, Sportsplex West, Iowa Communtiy College Athletic Conference, which are only a few miles from campus. Recently, for example, our students had internships at the Iowa Cubs, Iowa Barnstormers, Des Moines Buccaneers, various high schools around Des Moines and central Iowa, YMCA and Sportsplex West.

The Charles S. Johnson Wellness Center gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience as you work with Grand View students, faculty, staff and the community. As part of the Sport Management program, you might work in the Wellness Center setting up and supervising special programs and events. This 61,000-square-foot facility houses Grand View’s Health and Physical Education Department, technology-rich instructional spaces and state-of-the-art fitness and recreation facilities.
