Job Description:
Iowa Public Radio (IPR) seeks a dedicated and experienced professional to join our staff as Executive Director. Based in the Des Moines office and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership in supporting and promoting the mission, vision and goals of the organization in upholding the integrity and trust of Iowa Public Radio in multiple locations. The major responsibilities of the Executive Director include: providing management and guiding strategic direction of the organization, maintaining and nurturing relations between the Board of Regents, Board of Directors, industry and community leaders; and assisting in achieving the goals of strengthening the impact, reach and performance of our organization; growing and engaging our audiences and becoming financially independent from university funding by increasing private support. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for being the statewide “face” of Iowa Public Radio.
Job Qualifications:
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s degree; • Ability to lead, inspire and encourage teamwork through collaboration fostering the mission, vision and goals of the organization; • Provide and maintain a cooperative work environment that encourages creativity in problem solving and an entrepreneurial approach to achieving goals; • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of constituents and to negotiate successfully with all levels of an organization, both internally and externally; • Balance and sustain both the “big picture” with the “day-to-day” operations and activities of the organization; • Embrace new technologies and understand the opportunities such present; and • Possess previous public media employment experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelor’s degree; • 10 years of progressively responsible experience preferably with a not-for-profit organization demonstrating success in fundraising; • 7 years management experience including staff, program and fiscal oversight; and • Hold best practices related to journalistic integrity in high regard.
