Job Description:
Position Goals: 1. To provide accessible aquatics activity options for people of all ability levels. 2. To enhance leadership and organizational skills in leading the waterfront staff and overseeing all waterfront activities. 3. To enhance personal ability to support campers with disabilities and teach new skills. Responsibilities: 1. Assume responsibility for safety of both campers and staff during all waterfront and pool activities. 2. Responsible for providing a safe environment for participants and staff in aqua activities. 3. Is responsible for supervision of lifeguards and fishing guide. Provide support and complete evaluations regularly. 4. Responsible for a complete list of physical or medical restrictions and other information pertinent to swimming prior to each camping session. 5. Responsible to make decisions regarding swimming and boating activities if weather conditions are doubtful, following all camp policies and emergency procedures. 6. Responsible for leading orientation sessions for staff members on how to support campers in the pool and lake and outlining all policies and procedures for these areas. 7. Explain emergency procedures and daily routines to all staff during the orientation of the waterfront area and the pool. 8. Enforce all pool and waterfront rules. 9. Provide instruction for adjusting to water, learning to swim, and adapted activities. 10. Assist in planning rainy day activities. 11. Responsible for assigning lifeguard rotation to the pool / lake and provide supervision. 12. Is responsible for ensuring swimming equipment such as swim briefs, pool and beach toys and lifejackets are accounted for, in good condition and readily available when needed. 13. Is responsible for maintenance and cleaning of waterfront beach, boating areas, island dock and the pool. This includes maintaining clean bathrooms at both the waterfront and the pool area. Report any maintenance problems to maintenance staff. 14. Is responsible for attending planning meetings and assist in ensuring that campers have opportunities to participate in as many aquatics activities as possible during the week. 15. Assist in scheduling weekend lifeguards. 16. Follow ACA standards regarding all aqua activities as assigned by Program Manager and Program Director. 17. Aquatics Manager schedules and works out details of canoe trips for lessons, practice, and actual trip in partnership with counselors and village leaders. 18. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for Program Staff, as assigned by Program Manager and Director
Job Qualifications:
Job Requirements: The Aquatics Manager must have a current Red Cross W.S.I. Certificate, or lifeguard training certificate, and have a minimum of six weeks supervisory or management experience in an aquatic setting or with people with developmental disabilities. Must hold current certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid.
