GL Accountant (Des Moines, IA) Overview: The GL Accountant assists the Accounting Team by analyzing financial and operating data, conducting account reconciliations, and ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger. The GL Accountant assists in establishing, modifying, documenting, and coordinating the implementation of accounting control procedures and aids in the development of operating goals and objectives to enhance operations. ________________________________________ Essential Duties: •Coordinates the month end closing procedures, focusing on balance sheet reconciliations such as prepaid expenses, deposits and certain accruals. •Interprets and analyzes financial operations and transactions, forecasts trends, and implements financial analyses for budgetary management. •Ensures the accurate and timely reconciliation of general ledger account balances and review of transaction activity to insure compliance with company policies and procedures. •Analyzes payables and receivables to ensure general ledger balances are correct, transactions are classified properly and reported accurately, and help identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures. •Prepares, supports, and assists with audits and in the preparation of the annual budgetary process by analyzing past and present financial transactions and submitting financial reports and data to regional and corporate staff. •Interprets and analyzes financial operations and transactions, forecasts trends, and implements financial analyses for budgetary management. •Identifies drivers of changes in financial statements and accounts between periods and communicates findings to regional and corporate staff. •Monitor revenue and expenses for community accounts and ensure expenditure control and compliance with funding and reporting requirements. Examine, reconcile, balance and adjust accounting record. •Prepares, reconciles, balances, and maintains accounting records and assists with the preparation of monthly financial statements to include distributing monthly revenue and expenditure to communities and/or departments. Leadership and Development •Maintain a consistent awareness of regional/portfolio financial performance. Plan and implement solutions in conjunction with the Regional Vice President, Regional Managers, Investors and Property Managers. •Set and uphold high standards of honesty for self and team members. Follow through on commitments. •Ensure a consistent flow of communication between corporate departments and community staffs.
