A Grand View student and alum have been honored with Regional Emmy Awards for the roles they played in team news and sports coverage at KCCI-TV, Channel 8 in Des Moines.
The Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences honored KCCI with three Emmys, it was announced September 27. One Emmy included Alex Murphy, a senior from Baxter majoring in broadcast and journalism. The academy recognized KCCI for its coverage of the “Blizzard of ’09” that hit in December. Murphy, who still works at KCCI part time while attending Grand View, was part of team coverage.
Andy Ireland, a 2007 Grand View grad, was recognized for his part in the KCCI Sports special “Harrison Barnes: Eye of the Storm.” Barnes, who won two state championships at Ames High School and was ranked by some as the No. 1 high school basketball prospect in the nation, ultimately chose to play basketball at North Carolina.
The Upper Midwest Emmy region includes Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, western Wisconsin and all of Iowa, except the Davenport-Waterloo market.
