President Henning Travels to New Orleans for Annual LECNA Conference and Day of Service


The Lutheran Educational Conference of North America celebrated 102 years of collaboration and service at this year's annual presidents' meeting held in New Orleans, LA from February 4-6, 2012.

LECNA's officers, led by board Chair - L. Jay Lemons of Susquehanna University, planned three days of presentations, conversations, and worship in the city where so many of their students have served in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. The theme for this year's meeting was: "Reconstruction: Preparing Students in Christ for Lives of Meaning in Service."

The ELCA hosted its national youth gathering in New Orleans in July of 2009 and will again be hosting it there in July of 2012. The LCMS hosted its national youth gathering in New Orleans in July of 2010. Thousands of students committed a day of service to the New Orleans community during those gatherings. In addition, many student groups from Lutheran colleges have undertaken volunteer service in New Orleans over the last several years. The Lutheran College presidents took their turn and assisted with rebuilding a family's home in New Orleans on Monday, February 6, 2012.
