Conference Will Allow Des Moines Youth To “Flip The Scrypt”
A day-long conference will allow youth in the Greater Des Moines area to acquire the skills to understand, appreciate and begin to eliminate the barriers that impact their future choices.
“Flipping tha’ Scrypt” will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at Grand View University in Des Moines. The conference is open to public and private high schools throughout the Des Moines area and is sponsored and organized by the John R. Grubb Community YMCA, Diversity University and Grand View University.
Through interactive workshops, small group discussions and a keynote address, participants will grapple with stereotypes, biases and fears that negatively impact their daily lives. Using guided discussions, participants will create both a newsworthy “headline” that captures their perceived future as well as an action plan for creating positive change in their schools and community.
The event will emphasize the importance of receiving an education, educating youth on the importance of personal health and educating participants to make personal choices to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Individuals wishing to register for this free conference should e-mail Louis Fountain, visit the Flippin' Tha Scrypt webpage or call the Grubb YMCA at 246.0791.
