return

Lizeth Ornelas Salazar, a senior at Dowling Catholic High School, has been awarded the Grand View Immigrant Iowan Scholarship.  This scholarship is designed to bring a significant educational opportunity to a promising non-native Iowan.  This scholarship awards full tuition and fees, plus room charges if the recipient lives on campus, to an outstanding incoming freshman who meets these qualifications:

  • Born of immigrant parents or an immigrant himself or herself
  • Graduating from an Iowa high school
  • High school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Not in the US on a student visa
  • Have demonstrated financial need

The scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the recipient meets these requirements:  participation as a member of Grand View’s Multicultural Leadership Team; serving as a Grand View Multicultural Ambassador; maintaining a 2.5 cumulative GPA at Grand View.

In Lizeth’s application essay, she wrote, “This opportunity would greatly change my life, and my future.  It would give me the chance to cultivate my mind.  It would enlighten me with the knowledge I need to proceed on the path to medical school.  This would also shape me as a person, and enable me to use my abilities and qualities to their fullest potential.”

Lizeth’s English teacher at Dowling had this to say about her, “Lizeth’s dedication to furthering her education will make her a very successful student at Grand View.  She will be a positive influence on those around her, both inside and outside of the classroom.  Her engagement in her courses will help other students grow academically, and her advocacy outside of the classroom will promote growth in the community.  I am confident she will be as successful in her chosen major as she was in her coursework at Dowling.”
