The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) has announced its winners of the Under Armour AD of the Year Award (ADOY). The award spans seven divisions (NCAA FBS, FCS; Division I-AAA, II, III, NAIA/Other Four-Year Institutions and Junior College/Community Colleges).
Grand View University Athletic Director Troy Plummer is a recipient of the 2014 NACDA NAIA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year Award.
Plummer was appointed as the Athletic Director in 2007 and since that time, Grand View athletics has grown from 275 athletes in 16 sports to 689 athletes in 24 sports. The Vikings have won the Midwest Collegiate Conference Commissioner's Cup the past four years; an honor for overall athletic excellence. Since taking over as athletic director, Plummer has been voted as the MCC Athletic Director of the Year four times.
Shortly after Plummer was named athletic director, Grand View began competing in football and wrestling. In just six short years, these two programs have won a combined four national championships – wrestling in 2012, 2013, and 2014, and football in 2013. Many other Grand View programs have garnered national attention – the men's soccer team was ranked as the No. 1 team in the NAIA in 2013, and the men's golf, women's volleyball, men's volleyball, women's volleyball, and women's bowling teams have all been ranked in the top-10 nationally in 2013-14. The Grand View women's basketball, women's golf, women's soccer, softball, and baseball teams consistently appear in the national rankings and make national tournament appearances.
In 2013-14, Grand View successfully hosted the NAIA Championship Opening Round for women's volleyball, men's soccer, and football as well as the football championship second round and semifinal game.
With Plummer at the helm, the Grand View athletic department has added 21 full-time employees and every athletic program has benefitted from over five million dollars in facility upgrades.
Plummer contributes to Grand View and NAIA athletics on a national level. He is a member of the NAC and serves on the Championships Committee, the NAIA Task Force for Emerging Sports, and is the assistant commissioner for NAIA men's volleyball.
Plummer will receive his award during the James J. Corbett Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 11 at NACDA's 49th Annual Convention at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida.
