Photography Exhibit and Reception


The Cowles Communication Center Gallery will display photographs by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Mary Chind, August 30 - October 15, 2010. The exhibit is entitled: "Silent No More, Ugandan Children of War."

The gallery is open Monday - Thursday 8 am - 9 pm, Friday 8 am - 4 pm, and Sunday 1 pm - 9 pm. There will be a photographer's reception on Friday, September 10 from 5 pm - 7 pm.

Mary Chind graduated from the University of Wisconsin Steven's Point in 1989 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She worked in Arizona for the Sierra Vista Herald and The Tucson Citizen as a photojournalist before joining The Des Moines Register in 1999.
In addition to Uganda, Chind's assignments have taken her to Mexico, Ireland, Finland, Mali, Canada, and across the United States. Most of her work focuses on Iowans. Her work has received numerous state and national awards from Associated Press, Society of News Design, and National Press Photographers Association. Her most recent award, the 2010 Pulitzer for Spot News Photography recognizes an image taken last summer of a dramatic river rescue in downtown Des Moines.
