Nielsen Concert Series - November 7

Nielsen Concert Series
Solon Pierce, piano
Sunday, November 7, 3 p.m.
Student Center Viking Theatre
2811 E. 14th St.
No admission charge

In this program, Solon Pierce will feature an amazing array of music from around the globe, tracing a variety of influences, including American works by William Bolcom ('Graceful Ghost Rag') and George Gershwin, French music of the volatile 1920s by Darius Milhaud inspired by Brazilian rhythms (Saudades do Brazil) and ragtime (#1 from Trois Rag-Caprices), Russian works by Tchaikovsky and Scriabin, and one of the epitomes of German romanticism–Carnaval, Op. 9, of Robert Schumann. These twenty short pieces woven together form a rich musical tapestry subtitled "little scenes on four notes," and are musical depictions of characters at a masked ball during Carnival season before Lent.
