Jorgensen Named National Player of the Year
The honors continue to roll in for Grand View's Jennifer Jorgensen (Dayton, Iowa). The two-time MCC Player of the Year and three-time MCC First Team selection capped off her stellar career at Grand View by not only repeating on National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' (NAIA) All-America First Team, but was named the 2012 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Year announced by the NAIA today.
It is the third straight All-American selection for Jorgensen; she received Third Team honors in 2010 and was voted to the First Team in 2011.
"I am really happy for Jenn. It is a well-deserved honor for a hard-working kid. She is very complete basketball player and does everything that you would expect a good player to do offensively and defensively," said Grand View Head Coach Garey Smith.
Jorgensen finished third in the nation in scoring at 23.2 points per game and led the nation in total points scored (835) and steals (120) and was seventh nationally with 10.6 rebounds per game.
The 5'10" senior guard led the Vikings to a 30-6 overall record in 2011-12, the Midwest Collegiate Conference regular-season (17-1) and conference tournament titles, and a trip to the quarterfinals of the national tournament for the second time in three years.
Jorgensen averaged 20.0 points and 13.7 rebounds in three games at this year's national tournament and today was also named to the All-Tournament First Team.
Jorgensen will graduate from Grand View in April with a degree in Sport Management. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA and was recently selected as the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year.
