Grand View to Host Teen Summit

Grand View is hosting the Des Moines Youth Council Teen Summit on Friday, June 15.  The national organization, NAACP, is committed to youth leadership and development as an integral part of its civil rights legacy.

The Des Moines Youth Council, in its 10th year since reactivation in 2002, continues to develop and implement program that fosters education and provide relevant information about today’s current issues and trends. One such program is the annual Teen Summit. Teen Summit is in its 6th year. This summer evening event allows teens to hold an unabridged conversation about subject matter that is current and or controversial with passion, and respect for diverse opinions. This year’s theme is: Growing up Takes Responsibility.

Three of its six years, Teen Summit has been hosted by the Multicultural Department, directed by Mr. Alex Piedras on the campus of Grand View University. Des Moines Youth Council is most appreciative of this community collaboration with Grand View.

Teen Summit is a free public event for teens ages 13-18. This year’s summit will be held on Friday, June 15th. Registration is online at Registration deadline is June 11th. Event check in begins at 4:30 p.m. The program will begin at 5 and conclude with refreshments and music at 8:30 p.m.
