The Grand View men's soccer team looked to outright clinch the title of MCC regular season champions tonight as they faced off against the William Penn Statesmen (7-10). The Vikings took care of business and beat the Statesmen 5-0 winning the MCC regular season conference title. The Viking men honored their seniors well in tonight's win.
Sophomore defender Ross Galbraith (Dunfermline, Scotland) was the first to find the back of the net in the third minute of play. Senior midfielder and team captain Ryan Adamson (Dumfries, Scotland) crossed a ball in from the right side of the pitch where senior midfielder Danny Mullins (Hull, England) was on the other end of it touching it by Statesmen goalkeeper, giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The senior domination would continue into the second half of play. Senior forward Noel Medina (Urbandale, Iowa) ripped a shot into the back of the net off a rebound from the goalkeeper in the 64th minute. With the game coming to a close, the Vikings would slip two more goals, both in the final minute of play. Junior midfielder Austin Kelly (Ottumwa, Iowa) tallied a goal for himself and made the score 4-0; just when time was almost up, Adamson sealed the victory with a goal of his own and sophomore Brian Lee (Glasgow, Scotland) recording the assist.
Senior goalkeeper Conor Thomas played all 90 minutes and six saves in his fifth shutout on the year. The Vikings will play one more regular season non-conference game to tune-up for the MCC tournament against Bellevue University on Wednesday, October 24th at 7 p.m. at James W. Cownie Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
