Job Description:
The Youth and Family Ministry Director at Chatfield Lutheran Church is responsible for directing non-formal (other than Sunday School and Confirmation) youth programs.  The Youth Director must work with and will be guided by supporting committees, clergy, and volunteers to develop opportunities for growth in Christ among our youth.  This includes programs to strengthen families in identifying  God’s message in our lives of faith.  Primary Responsibilities:*  Create  the vision for youth ministry and align with the vision/mission of the church*  Develop fresh, current, informed and relevant youth ministry programming*  Work closely with committees, clergy and council to both inform and develop a unified approach*  Recommend goals, safety policies, budgets and objectives to appropriate committees and leadership*  Encourage youth  involvement in the life and worship of this congregation*  Understand and balance the connection between youth activities and purposeful discipleship and and faith*  Be an example to the youth in this congregation*  Focus on dynamics of age groups with special  emphasis on post-confirmation youth*  Build relationships with youth and their families*  Lead ministry to be service oriented in church and in larger community*  Recruit and support volunteers*  Be a responsible steward of youth program money including donations, deposits, etc.   *  Communicate  (verbally and electronically)in an effective and timely mannerJob Duties:Note:  Duties may be modified or changed, and this listing may not be a complete list of current duties.*  Work full time yet with flexible hours*  Be the primary contact for all youth programs*  Attend and participate in worship service and activities at least three Sundays a month with some Saturdays*  Lead all non-formal youth groups*  Encourage new and creative ways to share the Word of God*  Be visible in school and community events*  Inform the congregation of upcoming events and needs of the youth*  Identify and recruit volunteers (youth and adults) for programs*  Promote and continue to support youth and family service to church and larger community*  Coordinate special events throughout the church calendar with volunteers*  Serve as a resource on the Youth and Education Committees*  Attend Executive Council and staff meetings as needed*  Attend CYF meetings (Synod youth workers meetings)*  Promote vibrant intergenerational relationships*  Register students for all programs, Sunday School and Confirmation*  Be the “Backup of Last Resort” for the Sunday School*  Assist pastor with Confirmation class*  Work with staff support to assure a healthy balance between professional and personal life*  Abide by ELCA behavioral guidelines as defined in Visions and ExpectationsThe person in this position oversees all  Youth and Family Ministry programs at CLC  which  include the following:  service oriented programs; activities for gr. 4-9; outreach to postconfirmation youth;  Peer Ministry;  Funfilled educational activities,trips,retreats;  camp experiences/camperships;  Summer Bible School;  specific breakfasts, coffees, suppers; Tour of Homes, roadside cleanup and other fundraisers;  annual mission trips (2);  National Youth Gathering (3rd yr.) 
Job Qualifications:
Education and Job Skills Required:*  Bachelor Degree or Equivalent in an area relevant to youth ministry and spiritual formation as a minimum requirement*  Understanding of adolescent  psychology/development and of educational teaching methods*  Have an understanding and appreciation for Lutheran theology and teachings*  Ability to articulate personal faith and inspire others*  Proficiency in generating effective programs and in implementing creative ideas*  Ability to cultivate leadership and delegate to others*  Commitment to a team concept of ministry*  Ability to organize, complete, review, and evaluate programming and work toward improvement*  Utilize social media and technology to support programmingConfidentiality: Above and before and after everything else:  Confidential stewardship of the conversations and information touching on work within the congregation is required.
