Job Description:
Job Description: Director of Youth & Family Ministry (DYFM) Purpose To lead a dynamic,comprehensive, Christ centered program for 6th through 12th grade students and their families. Relationships As a member of the ministerial staff, the DYFM reports to the pastor(s) and works collaboratively with the Youth Board (a group composed of parents and students that guides and oversees the direction and content of the Middle School and High School youth ministry programs). The DYFM will meet weekly with the ministerial and support staff of CLC and will lead a monthly meeting of the Youth Board. Responsibilities Christian Education Administration Responsibilities: ??With the Youth Board Chairperson, facilitate and lead meetings of the Youth Board including recruitment of members, mentoring student members in leadership skills, and supporting members in their tasks. ??Attend meetings of the Church Council as an ex -officio member and submit monthly Youth Ministry/Youth Board report in cooperation with the Youth Board Chairperson. ??Work collaboratively with the Director of Family Ministry and Christian Education (DFMCE). ??Maintain Youth Ministry files describing programs, activities, and curriculum for each youth ministry. Communication Responsibilities: ??Collaborate with DFMCE and Office Manager on a monthly Children & Youth Newsletter and weekly church bulletin announcements. ??Maintain Youth Ministry-related pages on the youth Facebook group page and the church website, including acolyte schedules and information regarding programs and events. ??Maintain regular contact with students and families via mail, email, text messaging and phone calls. Planning and Implementation Responsibilities: ??Research and review curriculum for Sunday School, Confirmation, Middle and High School Youth Groups and other areas of Christian Ed that relate to youth ministry. ? ??Lead and oversee a Middle and High school youth ministry program to include weekly gatherings/classes on Tuesday nights and Sunday mornings, weekly pizza lunches rotated among schools, and other monthly gatherings for fellowship and/or service. ??Plan and lead retreats/lock-ins and summer trips for both Middle and High School youth, working with Youth Board and its sub-teams. ??Promote all Youth Ministry and youth-related Christian Education events, via personal contact, social media, and publicity. Volunteer Coordination Responsibilities: ??See Youth Board responsibilities (above). ??Recruit, train, and support volunteers to work in all aspects of youth ministry at Central Lutheran Church, including Confirmation Small Group leaders, Sunday School teachers, and High School Youth Group mentors. ??Initiate and complete background checks for all persons working with children in the Youth Ministry Program. Worship Responsibilities: ??Assist in worship services as needed ??Recruit, train, and support acolytes and crucifers. ??Plan, recruit participants, and implement special youth-related worship services, including Youth Sunday and Confirmation Sunday. Financial Responsibilities: ??Assist the Youth Board in developing its annual budget, to include all aspects of the Youth Ministry program at Central Lutheran. ?? Design and implement Youth Ministry fundraising, in cooperation with the Youth Board Chairperson. Track and deposit funds, providing a monthly fundraising report to the Youth Board. ??Submit a monthly report detailing Youth Ministry expenditures. Mentoring and Pastoral Care Responsibilities: Serve as a youth mentor and confidante: ??Maintain regular contact with the youth and families who are participating members of Central Lutheran programs. ??Contact and recruit youth and their families who are not participating members of Central Lutheran programs. ??Contact visitors and their families to introduce them to Central Lutheran programs. ??Provide emergency and pastoral care for all youth and their families. ??Establish and maintain personal relationships with members of this age group and their families through participation in Youth Ministry activities and church-wide functions. Facilities and Equipment Responsibilities ??Assume primary responsibility, with the Youth Board, for scheduling the use of Luther House. Cooperate with Property Board on maintenance and renovation needs. ??Assume primary responsibility, with the Youth Board, for scheduling the use of the church van. Communicate with Property Board on maintenance. . ??Acquire, maintain, and supervise the use of equipment needed for the Youth Ministry program. Continuing Education Responsibilities Stay abreast of current Youth Ministry trends and ideas, by attending appropriate workshops, seminars, and conferences, subject to approval by Personnel Committee.
Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: • A strong Christian faith and respect for the Lutheran tradition that is nurtured by worship, Bible study, and prayer. • A Bachelors degree in a relevant field of study. • Experience leading mid-sized groups of teens in programs that engage them, encourage moral behavior, and develop leadership skills through planned events, service projects, study, and discussion. • Demonstrated ability to work positively and energetically as part of the staff team of a large, faith-based organization. • Proven track record in building relationships with youth and families. • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. • Good interpersonal skills. • Verifiable references and background check. Preferred Qualifications: • Previous experience in Youth and Family Ministry or related field. • Musical ability with experience leading group singing and/or skills in playing piano or guitar. • Degree in Youth and Family Ministry. • Fund-raising experience.
