Job Description:
Position Goals: 1. To enhance personal ability to support campers with disabilities and teach new skills. 2. To use arts and crafts activities to heighten campers’ sense of self-confidence and individuality. Responsibilities: 1. Provide materials, instructions and supervision to campers and staff in arts and crafts activities. 2. Responsible for maintenance and organization of equipment and materials in the Arts and Crafts area. Responsible for the cleanliness of the arts and crafts room, storage space, and the surrounding areas. Responsible to communicate supply requirements in a timely manner. 3. Provide a safe and nurturing environment. 4. Motivate groups to understand and appreciate the world in which they live by encouraging creativity and individuality through art. 5. Continually relate activities done in arts and crafts with all other aspects of the camp program. Encourage campers to use skills learned in Arts and Crafts sessions during camp activities such as talent show, skits, and other evening programs. 6. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. 7. Experiment with a wide range of arts and crafts activities so new ideas may be added to the activity binder. 8. Keep track of what activities work well with different populations, building the program’s applicability and effectiveness. 9. Perform any miscellaneous duties as requested by the administrative staff. 10. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for Program Leaders.
Job Qualifications:
Job Requirements: The Arts and Crafts Leader should be a college student or graduate in art, art education, industrial arts, recreation or a related field. Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
