Job Description:
Position Goals: 1. To increase vacationer interest and knowledge of enjoyable recreation activities that lead to a healthy lifestyle. 2. To introduce vacationers to novel activities and build skills in those areas. 3. To promote self-sufficiency and ability to achieve personal goals. 4. To enhance personal ability to support campers with disabilities and teach new skills. Responsibilities: 1. Responsible for maintaining and organizing equipment and materials related to the recreation and fitness areas. Responsible to communicate supply needs in a timely manner. 2. Responsible for checking recreation equipment daily for any damage or alteration that would make it unsafe for individuals to use. Report damage to the programs coordinator or maintenance. 3. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. 4. Provide materials, instructions and supervision to campers and staff in recreation and fitness activities. 5. Motivate groups to participate. Adapt activities so that they can be enjoyed by all vacationers. 6. Lead fitness activities involving workout videos and range of motion exercises for individuals with varying mobility. 7. Lead morning stretches as a large group activity as well as encouraging this as an aspect of all small group recreation activities. 8. May lead and assist high and low ropes courses if trained in this area. 9. Experiment with a wide range of recreational and fitness activities so new activities may be added to the activity binder. 10. Share responsibility of driving hayride if trained. 11. Responsible for the archery program and meeting ACA standards in target sports, regarding archery. 12. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for Program Leaders. 13. Perform any miscellaneous duties as requested by the administrative staff.
Job Qualifications:
Job Requirements: The Recreation Leader should be a college student or graduate in recreation or related field. Experience with individuals with developmental or physical disabilities is helpful. Will possibly complete ropes course training and become a certified instructor of Archery though the National Archery Association. CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
