Job Description:
Position Goals: 1. To introduce new skills and encourage self-motivated challenge. 2. To build both team work and enhance feelings of self-efficacy. 3. To enhance personal ability to support campers with disabilities and teach new skills. Responsibilities: 1. Responsible to provide leadership and supervision to groups involved with the summer resident camp Team Quest programs. 2. Complete training requirements and demonstrate skills with cooperative group games, low and high challenge course elements, knot tying, safe use of equipment (element hardware, helmets, harnesses, belay pieces, belay ropes, ladders) and set-up and take-down procedures. 3. Maintain all equipment/materials used for and on the Ropes Course. Assist with set up and take down of equipment as needed. 4. Orient groups to proper safe use and procedures in activities and ropes course use. Provide a safe and nurturing environment. 5. Demonstrate knowledge of Team Quest policies and procedures. 6. Attend instructor training sessions when possible. 7. Communicate regularly with counselors to learn of strengths and weaknesses of each group so plans can be made accordingly. 8. To maintain a quality working relationship with co-workers and user groups. Work cooperatively, energetically, and enthusiastically. 9. Experiment with a wide range of group games and activities so that all participants can participate to their fullest ability. 10. Responsible to report as soon as practicable any damage or deficiencies in program equipment, and accidents or hazards on the course to the Director of Adventure Programs. 11. Demonstrate a commitment to Camps of Courage & Friendship by conducting oneself in a professional manner. 12. To perform tasks as deemed necessary by the Director of Team Quest to ensure the success of and further develop the Team Quest programs. 13. Assure that the physical course is free of litter and that the environmental impact is minimal. 14. To perform any miscellaneous duties as requested by the administrative staff. 15. Carry out duties and responsibilities listed for Program Leaders.
Job Qualifications:
Job Requirements: The Ropes Course Leader should be a college student or graduate in recreation, education, special education, or a related field, with experience in high and low ropes. Prefer some experience with persons with developmental disabilities.
