No.1 Vikings claim 6th straight NWCA Multi-Divisional National Duals Title
No. 1 Grand View continued their dominance at the NWCA National Dual Championships by defeating No. 2 Indiana Tech 30-8 in the championship to win their sixth straight title. There were 16 different teams in the NAIA bracket. The Vikings defeated Heart Confernce opponent Baker University 44-3 in the semifials, Campbellsville 30-9 in the quarterfinals and Doane College in the opening round 49-3.
Grand View won 33 of its 40 matches and posted a 17-3 mark with 12 bonus-point victories on the tournament's final day. The Vikings handled No. 2 Indiana Tech 30-8 in the championship dual, using a 13-0 major decision at 133 from #1 Jacob Colon (SR/Clear Lake, Iowa) against #2 Mitch Pawlak in a battle of returning national champions to set the tone. Grand View registered four major decisions and a technical fall in the finals.
Head Coach Nick Mitchell was proud of the team but knows there is still work to get done, "Every single guy's got something (to work on) right now, so it's a matter right now of how much better can we be between now and March? We can definitely feel good about this, but it doesn't mean we have to take time off and feel good about it. Feel good and get back to work feeling good at the same time."
The team had an interesting experience on their trip back home when their bus broke down! Read The Des Moines Register story HERE.
