Pre-Professional Preparation

Grand View University offers a number of pre-professional opportunities for students interested in graduate studies.

Pre-Engineering

Students interested in pursuing careers in engineering may take a series of courses at Grand View to prepare them for entry into schools offering this major. This pre-engineering curriculum includes prerequisite classes in mathematics, chemistry and physics, as well as classes that satisfy general education requirements.

Grand View offers students the opportunity to work with an academic advisor to tailor a plan of study for a particular area of engineering and/or a specific school (e.g. Iowa State University or the University of Iowa - among others). If you would like additional information or have questions about this option please contact the Chair of the Mathematics Department.

Pre-Dentistry

Grand View's pre-dentistry preparation is designed for students who are planning a career in dentistry. Coursework prepares students for the Dental Admission Test (DAT), graduate school and future success in the field. Dental schools do not recommend a specific undergraduate major, so you can choose a major that fits your goals. Course requirements varying somewhat between graduate programs, but Grand View will help make sure you are designing your curriculum accordingly.

Pre-Law

While there is not a specific pre-law major, there is a pre-law concentration program at Grand View University. The American Bar Association does not recommend a particular major, nor is there a major that law schools prefer. It is, however, recommended that you choose a major that will help you develop skills that are necessary as a future law student and lawyer such as reading comprehension, research, writing, critical analysis, problem solving, and public speaking.
