Overview: At Wellmark we strive to offer meaningful work that assists in your professional development and provides value to the team; you will come away from an Actuarial internship at Wellmark having polished your technical actuarial skills as well as your communication and interpersonal skills. In this position you will gain first-hand experience working on projects and getting exposure to current topics in the health actuarial field. This includes working with internal staff members in the analysis and reporting of health care and insurance industry trends. This role will work with Microsoft Excel and Access to model and manipulate data and requires the ability to perform, organize, and analyze data and research. Other key functions of this role include working on annual experience studies and assisting with ad hoc modeling, including models around health care reform. This internship will start in May of 2014. Required Qualifications: • Current student in actuarial science, math, finance, accounting, statistics or related major. • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Excel and Access. • Good written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to take initiative. • Ability to analyze and organize data in a consistent and logical fashion. • Proven problem solving, innovation, and technical adaptation skills. • Ability to work independently and clearly communicate results of data analytics and modeling. Preferred Qualifications: • Current sophomore, junior or senior student in an Actuarial Science program • One Actuarial exam passed Accountabilities: 1. Conducts special studies and review of established procedures (i.e. trends, rating factors). 2. Assures that the methodology for data collection and research meet established guidelines for statistical accuracy and will produce realistic results 3. Conducts research of data for competitive analysis; participates in the validation, organization and analysis of data 4. Initiate changes and data collection analysis where needed 5. Assist with annual individual and small group "deep dive" experience studies 6. Produce ad hoc modeling for impacts of health care reform 7. Updating large group rating factors 8. General modeling and manipulating data using Microsoft Excel and Access 9. Produce annual experience studies 10. Assist in producing and working with Health Care Reform models
