Grand View Announces 3+2 Master's in Athletic Training Program
November 15, 2019
Grand View University is excited to announce the launch of a 3+2 Master’s Degree in Athletic Training. This master’s degree program began at Grand View in Fall 2017, meeting the new requirements by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), whereby all athletic training programs will move to the graduate level by 2022. With the new MSAT 3+2, students who are interested in becoming an athletic trainer can now combine their kinesiology degree with a master’s in athletic training and complete both in five years. The change will streamline the process for students to graduate with both a BA in kinesiology and MSAT.
Grand View’s Master of Science in Athletic Training degree offers a rigorous program to prepare students for a rewarding career as a certified athletic trainer. As of April 2019, it is accredited by the CAATE and students graduate with the ability to sit for the national certification exam needed to become an athletic trainer.
Christopher Viesselman, Program Director, Master of Science in Athletic Training and Associate Professor of Athletic Training, is passionate about this move, “We are very excited to offer this new opportunity to help Grand View students reach their career goals in athletic training! By blazing a trail and creating the first 3+2 program at Grand View, we are opening up opportunities for other programs to think creatively and develop programs that meet the needs of their students and the greater community.”
