Vocation Week 2017

February 3, 2017

Grand View is a community of educators, staff and students committed to the multiple voices, histories, and faith backgrounds that make us who we are. Our experiences and values come together in a common purpose of providing a transformative education that prepares people to live transforming lives. Thus, vocation at Grand View includes a number of approaches to a life of service in the world. We invite you to participate in next week’s events and spend some time thinking about how you might make a difference in our world through your career, service and commitment to our community.

Vocation Week Events

Ongoing throughout the week

Core I Vocation Panels
Students in all sections of Core I will attend one of four vocation panel presentations scheduled throughout the week. The three-member panels (faculty, staff, student) will share their vocation journey stories and respond to questions students prepare ahead of time.
Core II Vocation Reflection
Students in all sections of Core II will be invited to discuss a series of vocation-related questions asking them to reflect on how they engage with diversity.

Core III “Unselfie” Project
Students in all sections of Core Seminar III will pose vocation-related questions to members of the campus community and present their interviews through photographs and text displayed on campus throughout the week.

Daily Work Study Recognition Drawing
All students who do work study or have other types of campus jobs will be recognized for their service to the campus community. A daily drawing will call special attention to representatives among this large group.

Vocation Chalkboards
Large chalkboards placed in the Campus Center will prompt students/others to respond to the following questions: “What are your gifts?” and “What are the world’s needs?”

Major Department Outreach
Faculty will reach out to first-year students who have declared a major in their department or who are undecided about their major. Students will be given a warm, welcoming message inviting them to engage with Grand View faculty and programs.
