Dr. Erin Kim-Cho Co-Leads Statewide Measles Awareness Campaign, Featured on Iowa Public Radio
June 4, 2025
Dr. Erin Kim-Cho, Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Practice at Grand View University, was recently featured on Iowa Public Radio’s River to River to discuss her role as Co-Director of a statewide measles awareness campaign led by Refugee & Immigrant Voices in Action (RIVA).
Launched in April in collaboration with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, the campaign is a rapid-response public health initiative aimed at addressing growing concerns about measles exposure, particularly among immigrant and refugee communities across Iowa. Drawing on her expertise in strategic communication and community-based outreach, Dr. Kim-Cho is playing a key role in shaping the campaign’s messaging and engagement strategies.
Under her co-leadership, the team has developed a comprehensive suite of outreach tools, including multilingual flyers, social media content, and a 9-minute community health training video. These resources are available on the campaign website, voicesforhealthriva.org, which offers information in 10 languages and is accessible in both English and Spanish.
