Education Department Hosts Dream to Teach

February 6, 2020

The Grand View Education Department welcomed 75 high school students from the Dream to Teach program in Des Moines to campus. They started the morning with a few team-building activities, a campus tour, admissions presentation and then ended the day with an Education student panel.

The Dream to Teach program is run through Des Moines Public Schools. It aims to recruit diverse individuals to be teachers in middle school and high school by supporting them on a path to ensure successful admission to a university. The group has partnerships with several institutions and makes visits to the other institutions throughout the year. Faculty from the education department provide perspective, "we believe this event is particularly important in order for these students to begin envisioning themselves as college students, and to ask questions to direct their futures toward college. Our department aims to make this a positive experience for the students and teachers on campus, and to provide them all with a memorable experience at Grand View."
