GV Hosts Des Moines Public Schools Dream to Teach Program
March 23, 2016
On Friday, March 11, nearly fifty Grand View students, faculty and staff welcomed the Des Moines Public Schools Dream to Teach program. More than 75 students, families and DMPS staff and administrators started their day participating in an intense Amazing Race Competition. Mr. Joshua Barr, director of the Des Moines Human and Civil Rights Office, spoke to all attendees about the power of youth and the importance of staying the course of your dreams.
The highlight of the day for many students was creating and launching parachutes in the Johnson Wellness Center Fieldhouse. Grand View education students directed many of the activities and won the hearts of DMPS middle and high school students. According to Jennifer Ulie-Wells, assistant professor of education, “It has been amazing to watch the Dream to Teach and Grand View University partnership grow. Their program continues to double in size, and our students always look forward to their visits.” The next planned event will be in the fall of 2016.
