The 2019 NEXUS Institute
August 21, 2019
The NEXUS Institute is a theological institute for high school students who have completed their 9th grade year. The NEXUS Institute is a life-changing experience of community and learning focused on shaping people to be agents of God's transformation in the Church and the world. Two sessions were held on campus this summer with 9 college mentors and 44 high school participants.
Three theology classes were held each day: Old Testament, New Testament, and NOW (class for learning ministry skills). Participants also worked in small groups, shared faith and vocational stories, played games, and had the opportunity to explore Des Moines. Kate Faas, Director of NEXUS, is happy with this year's events, "With increased promotions this year, we experienced a full summer program! NEXUS has brought in students from 15 different states and Canada to-date. I am always impressed how these students from different places come together because they love Jesus, and everyone leaves as a kind of family. It’s a fun week of exploring theology, growing as a community, and learning more about Christian vocation."
Quotations from NEXUS participants this year:
“Nexus is a great opportunity to come to understand faith, God, and one another.”
“The most meaningful part of NEXUS was discussing theological and life questions with others my age and with knowledgeable people like pastors and theological professors.”
“Nexus allows one the ability to further their relationship with God and other fellow Christians. You should 100% apply if you want to deepen that connection. One thing I loved about Nexus was the people. Everyone made you feel right at home, even if you were from another state or country!”
“It is a life-changing experience where I grew in my faith tremendously!! I loved the people at Nexus and the environment! It was just amazing!”
