Dream to Teach Scholarship Student Application Form

Applicants must apply for the scholarship and submit an essay along with two letters of recommendation by March 1, 2019. For those students who have participated in the Urban Teacher Academy, one of those references must be from the Academy teacher. The other may be from a high school counselor, teacher or community leader.

The Grand View University Dream to Teach Scholarship is offered as a partnership with the Des Moines Public School’s Dream to Teach program which supports promising minority students who have an interest in becoming teachers. This scholarship awards full tuition and fees, plus room charges if the recipient lives on campus, to an outstanding incoming freshman who meets these minimum qualifications:

  • Active participation in the DMPS ‘Dream to Teach’ program
  • Must be admitted to Grand View in a Pre-Education academic program
  • High school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Must plan to enroll as a full-time day student
  • Must be eligible to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Several other factors will be considered in the selection of the scholarship recipient, including GPA, ACT or SAT composite and sub-scores, academic rigor of coursework and participation in the Urban Teacher Academy.

The scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the recipient maintains full-time day enrollment in an Education academic program at Grand View University and good academic standing, including maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and an absence of any disciplinary action.
