May 2, 2022

Dr. Yeon Erin Kim-Cho, Communications and Media Practice at Grand View, will join the 2022 PhDigital online program, delivered by Texas State University, and sponsored by Knight Foundation. The program will host 23 fellows representing universities across the globe.

PhDigital Online prepares mass communication faculty to lead curriculum innovation in a digital product context. The program is offered online, scheduled June 3-July 15. The participants have already begun interacting on the workshop’s Slack team.

The program has recruited faculty and advisers from SJMC and members of the media community who are leaders in virtual reality and 360 video, drones, data, social media, coding, multimedia storytelling and media innovation. More information, including online module materials, is available at phdigitalbootcamp.com.

In addition, Dr. Kim-Cho was selected and awarded Volunteer Iowa National Service Fellowship 2022 for her leadership role with the Korean-American Society of Iowa (KASI). She is currently board president for the nonprofit. She will be a fellow from May to October.

“Volunteer Iowa hopes to support organizational capacity building for rural and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color) -led organizations by building their organizational capacity while also learning from them about the needs and challenges that they identify as most pressing.” Dr. Kim-Cho thanks the funders who have made this opportunity possible: Alliant Energy Foundation, Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation, and Schultz Family Foundation.
