Education Department Awarded Grant From Benedict Silverman Foundation

July 20, 2023

Dr. Lindsay Grow Harrison and Grand View’s Education Department were awarded a $66,000 grant from the Benedict Silverman Foundation. The grant will support the community by providing a means for Grand View students to tutor elementary school children who are struggling in reading. Grand View students will receive intensive training in structured literacy teaching methods via a program called "Reading Ready" by Katie Pace Miles. They will then be paid to tutor children several times a week. The grant also funds a part time person to oversee the program which is increasing in popularity after tremendous success in New York.

Dr. Lindsay Grow Harrison, Associate Professor, Education Department Chair at Grand View, says "The Reading Ready program has tremendous capacity to impact K-12 students and Grand View students. Grand View students will implement a structured literacy program with individual students. The individual students who they tutor have the potential to grow significantly in their reading capabilities. We are thankful to the Benedict Silverman Foundation for choosing Grand View in this partnership and look forward to securing local funding to continue this program in the future."
